Sensing the Land: Collective Mapping

November 2025

What does this land speak to you?

This session invites participants to slow down and listen to the land, the built environment, and the subtle ways in which spaces shape our experiences and identities. Together, we will explore how design can become more intentional and responsive by mapping the places we each feel connected to.

Working through the methodology of montage layering visual, sonic, and sensory fragments, we will collectively construct a living map of perception and memory. This process values multiplicity, recognizing the cultural, social, and political contexts we each come from as vital to how we sense, interpret, and inhabit space.

“Sensing the Land” is the first in a continuing series of gatherings that seeks to understand the relationship between people, place, and purpose, an ongoing exploration of how art and design, grounded in research, can open new ways of seeing, belonging, and imagining the world around us.

This session invites participants to slow down and listen to the spaces around them. Through collective mapping and sensory exploration, the session reflects on how design can respond to our connections with land and place.
