COLLISIONS OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Collisions of the New Millennium reflects on the political, social, and environmental anxieties that shaped the beginning of the 21st century. The attacks of September 11, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the nuclear arms race, the depletion of the ozone layer, rising divorce rates, and increasing sectarian conflicts are among the many contemporary tragedies that occupy Mohsen Jamali Neek and find their way into his paintings.

Confronted by what he sees as an increasingly fragile world, Jamali Neek’s work is driven by a sense of fatalism and apprehension. He imagines the possible extinction of beauty and humanity, yet his paintings also reveal a paradox: even the most devastating catastrophes can manifest themselves through striking and unexpected beauty.

This tension is particularly evident in his Hadron series, created while the experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was still largely theoretical.…
