CONTEMPORARY CALLIGRAPHY MASTERS

On the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Total Arts presented a selection of works by masters who have devoted their artistic practices to the beauty of script and text.

The traditions of calligraphy and the art of the book developed in large part through the work of artists dedicated to copying the Holy Quran. Over centuries, numerous scripts and styles emerged, each distinguished by its own formal characteristics and techniques. Among those who devoted their lives to one or more of these traditions, some achieved exceptional levels of mastery.

In the contemporary era, a number of master calligraphers have found ways to bridge historical traditions with modern artistic expression. Drawing upon their knowledge of classical scripts while introducing innovative approaches, these artists have expanded the possibilities of calligraphy.
