IMAGE OF THE SELF

Image of Self is a group exhibition comprising representations by artists, photographers, writers, curators, philosophers, and musicians, expressed through drawing, painting, photography, video, sculpture, writing, and composition. The works were selected by Fereydoun Ave, who describes the exhibition through the idea that:

“With eyes open photographs only give a two dimensional image of visage and self, mirrors the same flat two dimensional image: but with eyes closed and turned up into the head a multi dimensional, fluid fantastical self appears.”

Image of Self explores the conception of oneself, even when expressed through self-portraiture. It considers not only details that may be objectively observed by others, but also the knowledge and understanding an individual has developed about themselves.
