RITUAL

Ritual offers an insight into the Islamic understanding of transcendence, spirituality, and tradition, presenting these ideas beyond the contemporary imagery of conflict and violence. Through his work, Amadou Kan-si offers a visual representation of a way of life and a philosophy shared by more than a billion people, exploring a civilisation and its particular ways of perceiving time, space, and humanity.

At the centre of the exhibition are the gestures and postures associated with Muslim prayer. Artistically and visually, Kan-sy considers these movements as though they were characters in an alphabet written across space. Each posture carries its own rhythm and meaning, collectively forming a visual language through which stories can be communicated beyond conventional words.

These gestures become a kind of spiritual script, communicating on a level that is not always immediately accessible to the eye. As Kan-si…
