TERRAINS

The artworks in Terrains explore the landscape as both factual and realistic, yet simultaneously untouchable and imaginary. Through painting and photography, Ahron Gluska and Gene Lemay create landscapes that occupy an uncertain space between physical reality, memory, and imagination.

In Gluska’s paintings, the viewer is led across terrains that are rendered with remarkable restraint and precision. The landscapes create a paradoxical sense of scale: one feels both completely surrounded by the environment and, at the same time, as though observing it from miles away. This spatial ambiguity is accompanied by a vague sense of territorial familiarity, as though the landscapes belong to a distant but recognisable past.
