THE NEIGHBOURHOOD IS GONE

In the process of urban change and development, entire neighbourhoods can disappear. Sometimes this happens almost overnight; at other times, it takes place gradually over weeks. With their disappearance, however, more than buildings are lost—a small history of memories, experiences, and dreams disappears with them.

The Neighborhood is Gone documents the final moments of a small neighbourhood located near H.E. Mohammad Al Murr’s home, shortly before it was demolished.

Through photography, Al Murr captures a place on the threshold of disappearance, preserving traces of a familiar environment before it is transformed beyond recognition.

“I went and took a few photographs of the last moments just before the neighborhood was gone,” says the artist.
