The Thread presents works by three female artists—Maryam Ashkanian, Soodeh Bagheri, and Cecilia Moreno-Yaghoubi—who incorporate stitching and thread as central elements in both the concept and structure of their work. The exhibition brings together small two-dimensional pieces and larger-scale installations, with thread functioning both literally and metaphorically to create connections between the artworks and throughout the exhibition space.
Thread, one of the most humble yet remarkably versatile materials, has featured in the work of influential artists throughout history and continues to hold a significant place in contemporary art. For the artists in The Thread, its physical qualities and associations with craft, labour, connection, and continuity become a means of exploring identity, memory, time, and relationships.
