Photography became an important part of Niki Karimi’s artistic practice as she travelled extensively across Iran, from Tafresh to Kurdistan and Zanjan to Bushehr, while performing in many of the 25 films she had acted in since 1989. Her journeys through the country offered her an opportunity to observe and photograph its landscapes, developing a visual language rooted in stillness, atmosphere, and solitude.

“Nothing is stronger and more powerful and yet peaceful than nature, it’s sort of a meditation,” says Karimi.

What dominates Karimi’s photographs is a profound sense of minimalism, quietness, and solitude. As she describes it, “you feel alone in the middle of the strength of nature.” Her landscapes capture the simultaneous serenity and power of the natural world, creating spaces that feel both peaceful and emotionally charged.
